The Hoenes Collection, which is now part of the museum's holdings, was created between the 1930s and the 1960s. It comprises mainly sculptures, porcelain, and arts and crafts from Asia and Europe. Hermann Hoenes acquired his first East Asian works of art as early as the end of the 1920s, at a time when mainly national art was collected. Today, the collector couple's wish to try and understand their own as well as foreign cultures proves to be timely as much as their message of cultural tolerance. The museum's guiding principle of being a meeting point for different cultures and collectives arose from this approach.

Taking the 17th century Parisian salon culture as its model, the Roter Kunstsalon as a social and professional event offers an attractive platform to inform oneself, exchange ideas about contemporary art as well as buy artworks. In the Villa’s historic rooms and in the modern Kunsthalle, thirteen renowned galleries from Germany and abroad present current trends in the art market. A primary aim of the art fair is to show the diversity of contemporary art scenes and to present works by both well-known, established and young, upcoming artists. The Roter Kunstsalon takes place every year for four days in mid-October.

The Museum Villa Rot is well known as a distinguished institution for art and culture and has been stimulating the cultural landscape of Upper Swabia with its exhibition programme for many years. The Villa Rot, home to Museum Villa Rot, was built by Baron Raymund Fugger in 1912. In 1925, Alexandra von Hornstein acquired the property and bequeathed it to Feodora Christ in 1932. In 1933, Feodora Christ married cellist and conductor Hermann Hoenes. The couple turned the villa into a place for music, arts, and culture in the years after 1945. Their art collection is the cornerstone of the foundation with the same name established by Museum Villa Rot in the former "Fuggerschlösschen" on August 28, 1992.

Museum Villa Rot realizes three art exhibitions per year on a wide range of relevant social topics. Its aim is to make current positions and tendencies in contemporary art accessible to a broad public. The international solo and group exhibitions deal with important topics of our time and contribute to cultural identity and education. In the cultural landscape of Oberschwaben, the museum and its special atmosphere proves itself as a unique venue for culture, arts, and classical chamber music.

The Museum Café is furnished with period furniture and offers you insights into the history of our museum and the life of its former owners. Silvia Link will spoil you on weekends and holidays with a wide range of homemade cakes and pies, savory snacks as well as hot and cold drinks. In sunny warm weather we are also happy to serve you in the park café.

Our art education and the supporting programme stand for a sustainable experience that provides insights into different genres, discourses, and topics of art.
